You arrive back to Building E and log back into the work assignment computer. You enter the completion comments to the work that was given: “Fiber damaged by mice, repaired fiber, suggested to staff to call pest control.”
As you hit submit, the power goes off.
“Well fuck, not this again.” You say outloud.
Power is not as reliable as it used to be, after all fossil fuels and nuclear power were banned. The country went 100% renewable, however did not fully solve the grid stability issues beforehand. Some companies had ideas for battery storage, however with the brain drain the country had, did not fully implement it. You pull a flash light out of your backpack, making sure not to open the pocket with your old laptop in it. You see that Chris is still at his workstation, annoyed with the blackout.
“Well, how did it go, how are the Japanese?” He said.
“Interesting. I have a feeling the Japanese might have a stance against what’s going on here, we’ll see.”
“What country doesn’t anymore?” He replies.

“You have a point. Power on or not, it’s 5:30 now so it’s time to go.”
The two of you walk out the door and back to the bus stop at the front of the complex. As the two of you make it to the bus stop, the bus you were supposed to get on is currently on fire.
“Ugh another battery fire.”
The two of you decide it’s best to just walk as much as you can to another bus stop to find another bus to take to the other side of town.
“Did you plan on buying your dinner at a grocery store on your way home?” Chris asks.
“Yep, the wife and daughter are going out to a smoothie shop for dinner tonight so it’s just me and the Wife’s son.”
“There should be a small shop a block or two away, I think it’s a Lidl, but can’t remember.”
The two of you stop at that grocery store and buy a few bags of the soy meal that is normally eaten. You also buy two pretzels, one for you and one for Neal (your wife’s son).

Walking out the door, you find a bus stop not too far away. Both you and Chris get on the bus. Boarding the bus and taking it, you get almost entirely home but not completely, as the bus ends up getting stopped due to a protest. You both decide to get off the bus here.

You find yourself stuck in the middle of what appears to be a slut-walk, another protest to increase the privilege tax as you and others like you are still apparently too privileged. A woman who weighs about 200kg, fully naked and sitting in a scooter cart sees the two of you trying to walk around the protest.

“There’s some fucking white males!” she screams at the top of her voice before gulping a bottle of Diet Coke down in front of you. “GET THEM!”

The angry mob comes charging at you. Chris starts running and so do you, however you trip and fall, dropping your bag. Chris grabs your bag and bolts down a block, hoping you will catch up with him, however you’re not so lucky; you end up surrounded. You manage to get back up though, however a girl with nasty looking dreadlocks shoves you.
